syncro:sound developed a prototype soundscape simulation system as part of their contribution to work on the EPSRC’s Positive Soundscape Project. The system is not an auralisation system, but have been described as Google SketchUp for soundscape design.
Further work is being carried out on the simulator to incorporate technology which has developed since the conception of the project. In particular the use of tablet and smart phone computing to control the overall system.
The soundscape simulator has been demoed to a number of high profile interested partices, including urban designers, architects, planners, local councils, academics and even roaylity. The feedback has shown that syncro:sound’s soundscape simulator tool is a great way to start considering the impact that sound can have when designing spaces.
